Radium Remediation

The Sailing Club via this page endeavours to provide it's members with a referenceable section on background material available regarding contamination on it's land.

Before the remediation works the Health Protection Agency (HPA) developed a Q & A on the health issues around the contamination of the beach, which can be found at the following

http://www.hpa.org.uk//DalgetyBay/#q7 - this helps provide some context.

SEPA have confirmed that the remediation works are now complete - Dalgety Bay | Scottish Environment Protection Agency (SEPA).

Historic documents showing the scale of the works and the scientific background are shown below.

Monitoring is ongoing, and some particles have been found, but these are within the expected range - SEPA: No guarantee of 100 per cent Dalgety Bay remediation | Dunfermline Press

No special measures are needed for those using the club grounds when sailing or swimming except that members and visitors should not dig up the grounds. Surveys have shown particles underground in some parts of the grounds and these should not be disturbed.
