No racing at the Annual Regatta

The forecast for the regatta weekend was "breezy breezy" but with over sixty entries hopes were high for a competitive weekend. On the Saturday the forecast was for 20-30 knots, but when the race team arrived to set up it was clear that the weather gods had delivered substantially more! An early decision was taken to cancel racing for the day and hope for better conditions on Sunday.

Sunday dawned with substantially less wind, and after a short delay to allow for the tide to turn and try get the best possible conditions, the race team laid a course in Inverkeithing Bay. On course the conditions were showing 17knots or so gusting 22 or so, making for challenging but exciting conditions. Most of the competitors enjoyed a breezy beat and were ready to race. Unfortunately many of the less experienced competitors found that the conditions were more challenging than expected and kept almost all of the safety team busy. In those circumstances the race officer concluded that it was not safe to run the racing and it was abandoned for the day. Just to confirm the decision, the wind then picked up to a fairly solid 20 plus knots gusting more, and even some of the most experienced sailors found themselves going for a swim on the rollercoaster run back to the clubhouse.
