Update · 21 Mar 2025

The link to register to join the session online has been added below.

An informal and fun session on the Racing Rules. Ideal for those just starting out or looking for a refresher.

In this session we will be having fun but understanding the big game and looking to improve with the 2025-2028 rule changes.

The link to register for the online session is: https://us06web.zoom.us/meeting/register/Sz23DjKPT0W7rKZCEPOpsQ

There will be a second session sometime soon! This will be a deeper look at the rules - Having fun, keeping out of trouble, and handling a protest or redress issue as necessary

Each session will be about 90 minutes or so with a 10 minute comfort break in the middle with time for Q&As.

About David:

He started sailing in Poole Harbour as a junior with my dad in Fireflies, was racing regularly internationally in Europe as a teenager on Flying Dutchman and Tornado Catamarans when his parents relocated to Germany with the military.

Have held six National titles In South Africa in windsurfing, dinghy racing and keelboats of which two were Olympic classes, came second in the Fireball World Championships in Switzerland and represented South Africa crewing on a Flying Dutchman at the Barcelona Olympic Games

He has been a regular judge at National events at Royal Forth and Port Edgar on the Firth over recent years.

David joined Dalgety Bay Sailing Club last year and races a Finn, and soon a new D Zero at the club. He also races 707's at events in the north.

He qualified as a National Judge for South Africa in 2021, and is busy with his RYA and International Judge qualifications in 2025, and recently attended the RYA Race Officials Conference in Birmingham in January 2025. He will be sharing some of the latest trends and insights with everyone.

David has agreed to chair the protest committee at the RS Feva Nationals, so this event would be an excellent opportunity to learn for all of our junior racers.

Most importantly though, David is dedicated to making sure that sailing is fun, and believes that sailors shouting rule numbers at each other is not what we want to see!

The event will be at the Clubhouse and also available online (although in the Clubhouse will be much better!)
