DBSC Regatta Results
Report Dalgety Bay Sailing Club held their annual regatta over the weekend of 21/22 May and attracted an entry of 69 dinghies, with travellers from as far as The Shetland Islands, Orkney, Bala SC and Ullswater YC. The event incorporated the Laser 2000 and Finn Scottish Championships, and was a Scottish Traveller for Lasers and Laser Radials. The fleets were split between 2 courses, with the asymmetrics sailing off the clubhouse and the Lasers and non asymmetrics in Inverkeithing Bay. The first of a scheduled three races for the afternoon was completed in an oscillating light south westerly breeze. Race 2 was completed in a dying breeze and Race Officers John Robertson and Robert Taylor wisely sent the fleets ashore to enjoy the afternoon sunshine. The heavy rain of Sunday morning boosted the consumption of fantastic bacon rolls but did not prevent racing getting underway as scheduled in a light and shifting breeze which quickly settled down allowing four races to be completed back to back. In the Lasers, Peter Malcolm from Aberdeen and Stonehaven YC filed 5 firsts in the series to win convincingly with Andrew Clegg of Helensburgh taking second on countback from John Evans of Derwent Water SC. The 21 strong Radial fleet saw Anna Dobson scoring a string of first and second places to win with C Steele of Loch Lomond in second and Graham Tait third. Five Finns contested the Scottish Championships with John de Leeuw of Dalgety Bay taking the title with a race to spare. David Harcourt and Chris Farrell also from the home club were second and third. Reigning RS300 National Champion Ian Baillie won the Fast Handicap fleet, and Emma Palmer the Slow Handicap fleet in a Topper. In the Fast Asymmetric Handicap fleet, Ian Renilson in his Musto Skiff fought off late challenges from the RS 400 of Alistair and Calum Reid of Largo Bay SC and the Laser 4000 sailed by Stuart and Richard Urquhart of Dalgety Bay. The Laser 2000 Scottish Championships was close with only three points separating the three leading boats. Jim and Margaret Galloway from Loch Venachar were crowned ahead of Dave and Kate Eccles from Bala with Robert McCulloch and Anna Cadzow taking third. Other class winners were Ronnie Millar and Nicky Davies of Dalgety Bay in the RS200 fleet and Dave Burnett in a Laser Stratos also from Dalgety Bay SC |
