Laser Class

About the Laser

The Laser is one of the most popular single-handed dinghies in the world. By 2007, the number of boats produced exceeded 190,000. Two reasons for its popularity are that it is robust and simple to rig and sail. Laser sailing, 3 different rigs one class racing. Hull 13.78 ft. Sail area standard rig 7.06sqm adult sailors, radial rig 5.76sqm youth and small adults, 4.7sqm junior sailors. "Laser" is mainly used to refer to the Laser Standard (the second largest of the sail plan rigs available for the Laser hull), but this can be very confusing as there are a series of other "Laser" branded boats using different hulls.

Length overall: 4.23m
Length waterline: 3.81m

Laser Standard: 7.06m2
Laser Radial: 5.76m2
Laser 4.7: 4.7m2

The Club currently has one laser in the training fleet.

The Laser Class Captain Brian Greer says:

I started sailing at Dalgety Bay Sailing Club approx 9 years ago crewing on a Hurricane 5.9 catamaran. I have sailed all over Scotland and North of England, and participated in training at Dalgety Bay Tuesday nights and adult weeks, and learned to sail dinghies. Eventually bought a Laser dinghy and have had GREAT fun and brilliant racing at Dalgety Bay and other venues.
