Finn Class About the Finn The Finn was first designed in 1949 by a Swede, Rickard Sarby in response to a design competition for the Olympic single hander. The Finn dinghy is the men's single-handed Olympic class for sailing. It has been used at every Olympic regatta since 1952.
The Finn Class Captain Rhodri Thomas says: We're a small (not perhaps in the physical sense!) but very friendly group of Finn sailors at Dalgety Bay that enjoy both good competitive racing and also the social side of sailing. Anyone new to the class can be assured of a warm welcome and all the advice you need to get you up to speed. As the heavyweight Olympic single-hander the boat has evolved over the last 60 years into a modern design that retains a loyal and passionate following. It is a great boat to sail either socially or competitively. We have a full list of events across Scotland and northern England and are looking to arrange training both amongst ourselves and also more widely in Scotland. If you fancy giving a Finn a go then please let me know. I was converted a few years ago after one sail and it was the best decision I've made in my sailing career.
